I lost a warrior and a friend today,
A noble heart has slipped away.
Rex, the shepherd fierce and true,
No other dog will be like you.
You lived to serve, to guard, protect,
With strength and pride, with full respect.
You tracked with skill, you trained with fire,
A soul that never would retire.
No more you’ll charge across the land,
Or rest your head upon my hand.
No bark will echo down the hall.
The bravest dog who gave his all.
You weren’t just strong, you had a soul,
A heart that made my broken whole.
Though tears now cloud the days ahead,
I hold your memory instead.
And when my time on Earth is through,
I hope the first I see is you—
Charging up with eyes so bright,
My shadow, guardian, purest light.
I miss you more than words can say,
The ache is sharp, it won’t go away.
But I will keep your photo near,
