The Hilarious Ride Home
Adventures with Three German Shepherds and a Japanese Spitz
As I pulled out of the training place, I couldn’t help but laugh, realising I was about to embark on a journey that felt more like a mobile petting zoo than a car ride.
Four dogs, each with its distinct personality, piled into my car after a long day of dog training.
The journey was filled with laughter, joy, and heartwarming moments, turning a simple drive home into a memorable escapade.
The Canine Quartet, Meet the Stars of the Show
The Stoic German Shepherds
Blixten, Clint, and Flickan, the German Shepherds, each with unique traits, are the guardians of my heart. Blixten, the oldest, carries himself with a wisdom befitting his years.
The middle, Clint, loves mischief but listens to commands with military precision.
Flickan, the “youngest”, balances her boundless energy with surprising maturity, often playing peacekeeper among her mates.
Their distinct personalities make them a fascinating quartet, always keeping me on my toes and never failing to entertain.
The Spirited Japanese Spitz
Always ready to pounce on the next adventure, the Japanese Spitz, aptly named Rattan (the Rat), bounced around like a fluffy white ball of energy. She may be small in stature, but her spirit is enormous. Rattan takes on the world with the confidence of a lion, her tail wagging like a propeller. In contrast to her more prominent companions, she zips around with an enthusiastic vigour that never fails to amuse.
Training Time, a Day of Fun and Fumbles
After a day filled with sit, stay, and plenty of treats, loading the exhausted pups into the car was time for the grand finale.
Training these furry companions is an exercise in patience and creativity.
The Shepherds demonstrate their learned skills with a sense of pride.
The Japanese Spitz is always playful, and she loves training.
Treats, Tricks, and Triumphs
Armed with treats and abundant patience, I witnessed sheer brilliance and occasional canine confusion.
Blixten, usually the model student, loves protection.
Clint was damn good at tracking.
Flickan, the star pupil, perfected her sit-stay technique, earning the day’s coveted “good girl” award.
Not to be outdone, Rattan mastered her high-five trick, delighting me and gaining an extra treat or two.
Their triumphs filled me with pride!
The Ride Home
As I slid behind the wheel, I saw my furry passengers settling in for the ride home.
The car was now a haven for weary pups, each claiming their space.
Flickan, the co-driver, was always on the watch, and Rattan was preparing for a well-deserved nap.
Blixten and Clint lie at the back of the flatbed.
The Challenges of Driving a Petting Zoo
Navigating traffic with a car full of tired dogs was a unique blend of comedy, but all the dogs were very calm!
Home Sweet Home
A Tired Pack Returns
As we pulled into the driveway, I reflected on the journey, grateful for the laughs and the loyal companions by my side.
Our adventure, though brief, left me with a heart full of joy and a car full of sleepy but content dogs.
Their unwavering loyalty and the warmth of their companionship made the journey all the more special.
The Unloading Process
Extracting the slumbering shepherds from the car was easy.
Blixten led the way, followed by Clint and Flickan, each shaking off their sleepiness with a hearty stretch.
Their excitement was palpable as they trotted toward the house, eager to unwind in familiar surroundings and share their day’s adventures with the rest of the family.
The Spitz’s Final Sprint
With one last burst of energy, the Spitz dashed inside, eager to recount the day’s adventures to anyone willing to listen. Rattan’s enthusiasm was contagious as she spun circles in the hallway, her energy renewed by the prospect of playtime at home.
Finally, the dogs settled into their cosy spots, content and happy after a day of fun and friendship.
FAQ Traveling with dogs
How do you keep the dogs safe while driving
Use pet seat belts to keep the dogs safe during car rides and ensure they are comfortably secured in the back seat. This prevents them from moving around too much and keeps them protected in case of sudden stops.
How do you manage to drive with all the barking?
The barking is part of your rides’ charm. However, I’ve found that using positive reinforcement to encourage calm behaviour is highly effective.
By rewarding the dogs when they are quiet and settled, they’ve learned to relax during the ride.
Do the dogs enjoy their car rides?
Absolutely! Dogs associate car rides with fun and adventure, whether going to training, the park, or a scenic drive. They love watching the world go by and enjoy the excitement of new sights and smells.
How do you handle pit stops with multiple dogs?
During pit stops, I keep the dogs leashed and under control.
We find safe, open areas where they can stretch and take a break.
I always keep an eye on them to ensure everyone’s safety.
What tips do you have for travelling with dogs?
