Basic Obedience and Temperament Test for Shutzhund
What is Shutzhund? BH is an abbreviation for BEGLEITHUND, which means ‘companion dog.’
The minimum age for dogs to participate in a BH test is 15 months.
Schutzhund is a German word meaning “protection dog.”
1. On Leash Heeling Command: "Fuss"
Your dog must stay with its shoulder at knee level on your left side.
It must neither forge, lag, or go sideways.
The about-turn is to be shown by you as a left about-turn.
The command “Fuss” is permitted only when starting from the basic position and at the changes of pace.
2. Off Leash Heeling Command: "Fuss"
The leash is removed in the judge’s direction while the dog is in the primary position.
You hang the Leash over the shoulder or stick it in your pocket.

3. Sit Out of Motion Exercise
You walk straight ahead from the basic position and with the dog heeling off leash.
After a minimum of 10 paces and on the command “Sit” (in German, “Sitz“), your dog must quickly sit without you pausing or looking back.
4. Down Out of Motion With Recall - Platz
You command “Fuss” from the basic position and walk straight ahead.
After a minimum of 10 paces and on the command “Down” (in German “Platz“),
your dog must quickly lie down.
Without other influence on the dog and without turning around, you walk straight ahead another 30 paces, turn immediately towards the dog, and stop.
